The Design Assistant automatically creates work locations and displays them in the Design Workspace when you construct paths for the design. Path construction depends on the format of the design:

1. GIS designs-paths are constructed by placing points in the GIS window and invoking the Design Assistant's Get Path command. See Constructing Paths and Work Locations for GIS Designs.
2. Non-GIS designs-paths are defined manually using the Manual Points and Spans dialog box. See Constructing Paths and Work Locations for Offline and Template Designs.

Work locations are displayed as a list in the Design Workspace when the By Work Location view is active (see Viewing Work Location Information).
